The fires occurred at 2.15pm on February 25 at the Da Phuoc Waste Treatment Zone in Da Phuoc Commune, Binh Chanh District, HCM City.

According to locals, a rubbish mount of tens of meters high in the garbage dump of thousands of square meters unexpectedly went up in flames.

Fire and black smoke rose to tens of meters high. The staff of the garbge dump was quickly mobilized to hold off the flame.

Photo: Smoke from the fire could be seen from 5km away.

Dozens of fire-fighters and fire-trucks were sent to the scene. Due to the mountain of garbage being too wide, the fire-fighting force function could not prevent the fires, but only isolated it.

At the time of the fire, there were strong winds, so smoke spread to populated areas such as Nguyen Van Linh Boulevard, Highway 50, Vo Van Kiet Boulevard, districts 5, 6 and Binh Chanh District.

By 5 pm, the fire was basically extinguished; the smoke was not coming out.

The fire prevented dozens of garbage trucks from entering the garbage dump.
