Authorities in Ia Grai District, Gia Lai Province, are investigating a fire at a pig farm that killed 1,600 pigs and caused damages estimated at nearly 6.5 billion VND (approximately $270,000).
The fire occurred at 4:08pm on January 12 at a farm owned by Hoang Van Tiep in Lang Village, Ia Chia Commune. Preliminary investigations suggest the fire was caused by an electrical short circuit in the cooling system.
The blaze resulted in the death of 1,600 pigs, each weighing an average of 55 kilograms, with damages totaling approximately 6 billion VND.
Additionally, the fire destroyed seven exhaust fans, cooling systems, odor filtration systems, and silos, adding an estimated 490 million VND in losses.
Local authorities have directed functional units to assist the affected family in dealing with the aftermath and are exploring policies to provide financial aid.
