The FIFA writes: “18 games unbeaten is the national record run on which Vietnam will begin the AFC Asian Cup. The Golden Dragons were 130th on the FIFA World Ranking in September 2017, but have just won the AFF Cup and finished a calendar year in the top 100 for the first time in 2012.”
The team’s last defeat was a 1-2 loss to Indonesia in the AFF Cup semifinals in 2016.
They overtook World Cup winners France to become the international side with the longest running unbeaten streak – 16 games – after winning against Malaysia by a score of 1-0 in the second leg of the AFF Cup final on December 15.
During their preparation for the AFC Asian Cup 2019 in the United Arab Emirates, the Vietnamese team drew 1-1 with the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea and beat the Philippines 4-2 in friendly matches.-VNA
