Of these 14,042, or 14.6 per cent of the total, were delayed flights.

Late arrival was the main reason, accounting for 68.5 per cent, for the flight delays. Flights were also delayed or cancelled due to subjective reasons such as technical problems or poor service (25.5 per cent) and objective reasons such as poor weather conditions (5.9 per cent), Thanh said.

A total of 481 flights were cancelled during the period, accounting for 0.5 per cent of the total flights, registering a 2.7 per cent year-on-year decline.

During the period, local airlines transported 14.6 million passengers, a 24.1 per cent year-on-year increase, and 119,000 tonnes of goods, an increase of 6.3 per cent compared with the same period last year.

The total number of passengers passing through the country's airports reached 29.8 million in the first half of 2015, a 20.4 per cent year-on-year increase. The total freight carried was more than 467,000 tonnes, a 7.7 per cent year-on-year increase.
