Fencers win 9 golds at regional champs
Vietnamese fencers have successfully bagged a total of 9 gold,3 silver and 2 bronze medals at the ongoing Southeast Asian Fencing Championships in Malaysia.
The nine gold medals were captured in four team events (men’s sabre, men’s epee, women’s sabre, and women’s epee), and five single events.
The individual gold medalists include Nguyen Thi Tuoi (women’s foil), Nguyen Thi Thanh Loan (women’s sabre), Tran Thi Len (women’s epee), Vu Thanh An (men’s sabre), and Nguyen Tien Nhat (men’s epee).
The tournament, taking place in Malaysia from January 16-27, has attracted more than 400 athletes from Vietnam, Thailand, Singapore, the Philippines, Indonesia, Cambodia and hosts Myanmar.
HCM City prepares to hosts Futsal Championships in March
The National Futsal Championships, which will be held during March 2-15, is expected to see the participation of 10 teams.
The teams will play in two groups in a round-robin format with two legs. The two strongest opponents will advance to the semi-final round.
The matches will be organised at the Thai Son Nam and Phu Tho stadiums in HCM City.
Apart from bonuses for the top winners, there will also be awards for the Best Player, the Best Goal Scorer, the Best Goal-keeper, as well an award for the Best "Fair Play" team.
