VietNamNet Bridge - Nguyen Phu Thanh, a farmer from the southern province of Dong Thap, has created a system regulated via mobile phones which compounds pesticide and sprays chemicals.
Thanh, a farmer in Vinh Thoi Commune in Lai Vung District, had to run pumps to water his large fields and vowed to create an automatic system.
To spray pesticide, he opens a bottle and puts a conduit into the bottle. The system will automatically pump pure water into a tank, then compound the pesticide and adjust the water level.
When the volume of water in the tank reaches a reasonable level, the monitoring unit will transmit a signal to the processing unit that the pesticide mixing process has finished.
At first, Thanh intended to control his automatic pesticide spraying system with a toy controller. However, he realized this was not a good method and decided to regulate the system through phones.
When he calls from any phone to the numbers integrated in the processing unit, the electricity will switch on and the system activated.
He can also use his phone to order the spraying system to halt operating to save pesticide and fuel.
The total expenses needed to create such a system, according to Thanh, are only VND1-2 million.
Thanh said the system allows him to save 50 working days a year, 400 liters of solution and a lot of money on electricity and fuel.
However, Thanh is most satisfied that with the system he can take the initiative with his production schedule, and he does not have to touch chemicals.
Thanh’s first-generation system, which was created in 2011, allowed him to spray water and pesticide to 20-30 meters. Later, as the machine was improved, the distance reached 500 meters.
Meanwhile, Truong Dinh Thong, a farmer in Long Khanh Town of Dong Nai province, used the smartphone to irrigate his crops.
Thong one day thought that he could use electromagnetic waves to regulate the on/off function of the irrigation system.
At first, Thong’s system had some problems. He could only activate the system with mobile phones, but he could not use it to turn off the system. The pump would still automatically be activated if someone mistakenly called the phone number set in the processing unit.
However, all the problems have been fixed. The system will only begin working if it receives the command from certain phone numbers.
