Vietnamese football fans scrambled to buy tickets for a match between Vietnam and Malaysia in the ongoing ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) Suzuki Cup 2018.
The demand for tickets is increasing following Vietnam’s 3-0 win over Laos on November 8.
The match between Vietnam and Malaysia which are two title candidates will be held at My Dinh National Stadium in Hanoi on November 16 from 7.30pm.
People queued at My Dinh National Stadium in Hanoi on November 11 despite the unfavourable weather.
At 6 am on Sunday morning, thousands of people jostled at the stadium while waiting for ticket counters to open. Security had to ensure safety. Tickets vary between VND150,000, 200,000, 300,000 and VND400,000. All the most expensive tickets for the Malaysia match were sold by 9 am. At present, a pair of VND400,000 (USD18.18) tickets is being sold at VND2.5-3 million on the black market. Some people even had to stand on the fence to keep their place. Hats and raincoats were even used to reserve seats. Each person is allowed to buy four tickets maximum. Some conflicts even happened while people were queuing for the tickets. It is common to see such badly organised situations when the national football team plays in big tournaments. According to the Vietnam Football Federation, the federation has received proposals from different agencies to buy 60,000 tickets compared to the stadium’s capacity of just 40,000.
People can also buy a set of tickets for the Vietnam-Cambodia match at Hang Day Stadium on November 24. |
