“All our family members share the same name,” said Tran Thao Nguyen, born in 1992, in Tay Ninh, in a video she posted on TikTok.

The video about the names of family members has attracted nearly 1 million viewers, more than 50,000 likes, and hundreds of comments.

The woman said her name is ‘Thao Nguyen’, while her husband’s name is ‘Kim Minh Nguyen, born 1980, from Tra Vinh province. Their first son’s name is ‘Kim Song Nguyen’ and the second son’s name is ‘Kim An Nguyen’.

The couple met in 2011 while working at the same company in Tay Ninh. The first conversation left Nguyen in surprise when the girl he had paid attention to had the same name as he did.

“His name is Nguyen, and my name is Nguyen, too,” Thao Nguyen said. “He was born in the Year of the Monkey, and so am I, but 12 years later. At first, we couldn't believe the coincidence until we showed each other our ID cards,” Nguyen recalled.

Impressed by the cute girl, Nguyen constantly courted her. Despite different working hours, he came to the office an hour early just to see her. When she was very ill, he paid a compliment to her and brought her food.

While other admirers backed off when she was ill, Nguyen’s sincerity moved her to accept his love.

“Our homes were 200 kilometers apart, but long distance was never a problem for us. Meanwhile, our love was supported by both families. Knowing our identical names, everyone said it was ‘destiny’,” Nguyen laughed. 

In 2013, they tied the knot. Everything went smoothly and perfectly on the wedding day as the two always wished for.

Because of the coincidence in name, numerous funny things have occured. On the wedding day, instead of clearly calling their names, the MC referred to them as "the couple called Nguyen" or "the Nguyen couple".

In daily life, when their parents call out "Nguyen!", both respond simultaneously. Later, family members had to use both first and middle names to distinguish between them.

In 2015, they gave birth to their first son and named him ‘Kim Song Nguyen’. 

"He (the son) is the love fruit of the parents, and as both mother and father are called ‘Nguyen’, the name of the son should be ‘Song Nguyen’, which means ‘two Nguyen’.

In 2021, they welcomed their second son, naming him ‘Kim An Nguyen’ with hopes for a peaceful and complete life.
