The Bangkok Criminal Court recently held an extradition hearing for Y Quynh Bdap.
At a regular press briefing on the afternoon of October 17, Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Pham Thu Hang confirmed that Y Quynh Bdap was directly involved in recruiting, inciting, and orchestrating the June 11, 2023, terrorist attack in Dak Lak Province, which resulted in severe consequences.
Bdap was previously tried by the Dak Lak Provincial People's Court and sentenced to 10 years in prison for terrorism.
Spokesperson Pham Thu Hang stated that the extradition of Y Quynh Bdap to Vietnam is appropriate and ensures that all criminals are brought to justice.
Vietnamese authorities will continue to collaborate with their Thai counterparts to handle the case in accordance with the laws of both nations.
Over a year ago, a serious terrorist attack occurred in the communes of Ea Tieu and Ea Ktur, in Cu Kuin District, Dak Lak Province, resulting in the deaths of nine people, injuries to two others, and the destruction of state and civilian property.
During the investigation, prosecution, and trial, it was concluded that Y Quynh Bdap, the leader of the Montagnard for Justice (MSFJ) terrorist organization, had directed and facilitated the attack. Bdap, who has a history of criminal offenses in Vietnam, fled the country and resided abroad.
In January 2024, the Dak Lak Provincial People's Court sentenced Y Quynh Bdap to 10 years in prison for terrorism, and the authorities issued a special arrest warrant for his capture.
