In recent years, Bao Dai Villa has become a major attraction for tourists visiting Do Son. According to the management board, the villa welcomes 60,000-70,000 visitors annually. Guests can enjoy sightseeing, rent rooms, order meals, and host parties, experiencing "the life of ancient kings."
Bao Dai Palace spans an area of 1,000m² within a 3,700m² campus atop Vung Hill. Perched nearly 40 meters above sea level, the villa is surrounded by cool ancient trees and offers a panoramic view of Do Son sea.
The mansion, built in an octagonal shape, showcases typical French architecture with two floors above ground and one basement. The foundation is paved with laterite. The main door faces west and opens to a reception hall through three entrances.
Inside the main hall, visitors will find a restored throne of King Bao Dai and Queen Nam Phuong. Similar to the palaces in Hue or Da Lat, visitors can rent royal costumes for photo opportunities.
Adjacent to the living room are the bedrooms of King Bao Dai and Queen Nam Phuong, furnished predominantly in yellow brocade. A small room next to the king's bedroom served as his retreat for enjoying the breeze, moon watching, and working.
To the left of the reception hall are two dining rooms with royal-style interiors. The dining rooms have been restored to their original splendor, with a bar added for visitors' convenience.
Ascending the stone staircase, guests will find five bedrooms belonging to Princess Phuong Dung, Princess Phuong Mai, Princess Phuong Lien, Prince Bao Long, and Prince Bao Thang, along with a bedroom for royal banquet officer Nguyen De. Each room features large windows offering stunning views, with wooden interiors that create a warm ambiance.
The villa offers resort room rentals, with prices ranging from 800,000 to 2,500,000 VND per night, depending on the season. Summer is the peak time for visitors.
Guests can also listen to tour guides narrate fascinating stories about the significant milestones in the life of King Bao Dai and savor culinary dishes from the Hue royal court.
According to historical records, the villa was built by Governor General of Indochina Pasquier in 1928 as a resort and later gifted to King Bao Dai in 1949. The king used the villa whenever he visited the North.
Since 1999, the villa has been open to tourists, providing various services. On September 29, 2020, the Hai Phong City People's Committee recognized Bao Dai Villa as an official tourist destination.
