Viet Nam hopes to expand educational ties with Germany

Bilateral ties between Viet Nam and Germany in the field of education have yet to reach strategic partnership level, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan said.

Nhan was talking with the Secretary General of the German Academic Exchange Service, Dorothea Ruland, during his reception for her in Ha Noi yesterday, May 9.

Nhan told his guest that he was delighted to see Viet Nam's relationship with Germany growing stronger, but said that he expected more co-operation between the two sides in the areas of education and scientific research.

He added that he was looking forward to a meeting with Vietnamese alumni from German educational institutes, which will be held today.

The Deputy PM also outlined his hopes that the German Academic Exchange Service would grant more scholarships to Vietnamese students allowing them to study in Germany.

Ruland, who is in Ha Noi on a working visit, spoke highly of the educational ties between the two countries.

She said that Germany had offered 151 scholarships and fellowships to students across the world to undertake postgraduate courses in the country between 2008 and 2013.
