A source told Thanh Nien newspaper that the 58-year-old Nam, who is also a member of the standing board and the head of the internal affairs division at the provincial Party Committee, had sent his letter of resignation to the Standing Committee of the National Assembly.

In his letter, he referenced his poor health and family problems as the main factors behind his decision.

Having investigated the standing board of the Party Committee of Dong Nai Police, the Party Central Committee’s Inspection Commission found that Nam had violated the principles of democratic centralism and working regulations as well as Party and State regulations and laws during his term of leadership over local law enforcement agencies.

The commission noted that as Party secretary and director of the People’s Procuracy of Dong Nai Province, Nam must take responsibility for the violations and shortcomings of the procuracy in its handling of certain criminal cases.

The commission earlier uncovered multiple irregularities involving the Dong Nai police force, especially in terms of investigations and the settlement of criminal cases, the management and use of firearms, property, finance, and organizational issues, resulting in criminal charges being pressed against many police officers in the province.

Last week, the commission urged the Party Secretariat to take disciplinary action against Nam and Colonel Huynh Tien Manh, the latter being director and Party secretary of Dong Nai Police.

In July 2018, Nam was appointed to lead the province’s legislators.

His predecessor, Phan Thi My Thanh, 54, who had served as deputy secretary of the provincial Party Committee, was relieved from all Party posts last May for making serious errors during her tenure as the director of the local department of industry and trade between 2003 and 2009. SGT
