Natisia Ceh, Nguyen Vu Hoang Duong and Abass Dieng each scored a goal to help Thanh Hoa beat visitors Long An 3-1. Phan Tan Tai scored a consolation goal for Long An.
In another match yesterday, June 23, host Thanh Hoa defeated Dong Tam Long An in heavy rain. A match between Song Lam Nghe An and Hai Phong was also delayed because of the stormy weather.
In a march on Saturday, Ha Noi T&T maintained top place despite drawing one-all away against Hoang Anh Gia Lai. Brazilian striker Evaldo Goncaves scored the opener for Gia Lai in the 58th minute following a smooth combination, but Cristiano Roland quickly found the equaliser with a successful header just two minutes later.
With only one point from the draw, Gia Lai had to concede the third place to SHB Da Nang, who have 21 points thanks to a hard-earned 1-0 win over Kienlong Bank Kien Giang in an away game at Rach Gia.
Da Nang's only goal was scored by Argentinian striker Gaston Merlo, who towered above Kien Giang's defender and advancing goalkeeper to head the long pass from captain Nguyen Minh Phuong into the empty net. The loss was harsh for the hosts Kien Giang, who were off to a good scoring start, but it was not a day for Abdullahi Suleiman and Felix Ajala, who miserably missed them.
Kien Giang seemed jinxed when their captain, Luu Ngoc Hung, was sent off after receiving a second yellow card following a robust challenge.
"The win was completely deserved because we were playing away with some key players missing in defence," Da Nang's coach Le Huynh Duc said.
"I do not think Kien Giang are a weak team. They are very strong today with four foreign players in the line-up. I think if they can carry this form into coming matches, they have every chance to move up on the table," the 41-year-old said.
Also on Saturday, Becamex Binh Duong scored an important 3-0 victory over Sai Gon Xuan Thanh. The victory helped lift Binh Duong out of the bottom place.
