Speaking to Dantri/Dtinews, the Secretary of Mong Cai City Party Committee, Hoang Ba Nam said that Vietnamese tourists would be allowed to drive their cars through Mong Cai Border Gate to Dongxing and Nanning cities in China while Chinese tourists could drive to Mong Cai and Ha Long in Vietnam.

"This is part of our Two Countries-One Destination strategy which is expected to boost socio-economic development in the city," Nam said. "Besides this, we'll also co-operate with Chinese authorities to introduce the culinary cultures of the two countries. Visitors to Dongxing City can enjoy Vietnamese food specialities while those in Mong Cai City can enjoy Chinese food."

According to the Mong Cai official, tourism is one of their four key sectors in developing the local economy.

"In the first nine months of 2023, the total number of tourists to Mong Cai reached nearly 1.90 million, a year-on-year increase of over 170 percent," he said. "We expect to receive 2.30 million visitors this year."

Tourist attractions in Mong Cai include Sa Vi Cape - Vietnam’s northeastern most point, Tra Co Beach, Tra Co Church, and Tra Co Temple.
