VietNamNet Bridge – A few weeks ago, two doctors at the National Hospital of Endocrinology in Ha Noi fought violently after one interrupted the other at a seminar, according to the Nguoi dua tin (The Herald) e-newspaper.

The doctors, Nguyen Minh Hung (Dr Hero in Vietnamese) and Mai Tuan Hung (Dr Prosperity), both holding senior positions, started fighting after Hung prevented Hung from voicing his opinion. Dr Hero complained because Dr Prosperity was not invited to the seminar and didn't have the right to speak there.

After an intense argument, the two doctors began hitting each other violently. So hard in fact that Dr Prosperity was taken to hospital, while Dr Hero was arrested by police.

Both blamed each other for the incident. Dr Hero said he was insulted and struck hard by Dr Prosperity, causing a swollen face and bruises. Dr Prosperity counterclaimed that he was hit in the eyes, and his eyelids were torn. He claimed to have bled so much that he fainted.

According to the newspaper, Dr Hero was once fined by the police for sending threats to the hospital's management committee. Dr Prosperity, on the other hand, has a reputation for reporting the wrongdoings of other members of the staff. The case is apparently still under police investigation.

This is not the first time the National Hospital of Endocrinology has been in the headlines. It is also under investigation because some of its staff are suspected of embezzling State funds. Oh dear, pass the bandages!

Single mum pressured to name child's dad

A pregnant teacher who decided to become a single mother was forced to provide the name and contact details of her child's father while applying for social insurance.

The teacher worked at a high school in Vi Thanh City in the southern province of Hau Giang. She was asked by the school's principal to declare the identity of the man who made her pregnant.

"Only when I did as requested would the school begin insurance procedures," the teacher told the Phap luat TP HCM (HCM City Law) newspaper. Fortunately, when the provincial Department of Education and Training was informed of the situation, they declared the request irrelevant and against the law.

Department director Le Hoang Tuoi said there was no regulation preventing single mothers from enjoying social-insurance benefits or ordering them to declare the identity of the father of their child.

Lock-happy creditor given taste of own medicine

According to the police in the southern city of Ca Mau, a man named Nguyen Huu Nam, the director of a construction company, is being investigated for detaining people against the law.

A few weeks ago, a woman took her little child with her to Nam's home. She met him to demand the wage he owed her husband, one of Nam's employees.

Nam asked the woman to wait and then suddenly locked her and her child up in his house and went out. Upon hearing of the incident, local police contacted Nam and ordered him to unlock the door.

Nam told the police he was upset because he was having a difficult time meeting the demands of his creditors. Hopefully, the police told him he would have a more difficult time behind bars!
