At the dialogue, Mr. Vinh admitted his mistakes in the management, direction, administration and issuance of a decision to revoke the bonsai nursery which is said to be worth VND50 billion ($2.5 million) of Mr. Do Huu Tri in Lien Hiep 1 village, the town of Son Tinh, Son Tinh District.
Mr. Le Quang Thich, Vice Chairman of Quang Ngai province, told a local newspaper that Mr. Vinh, Son Tinh District Chairman, made many mistakes during the land revoking enforcement process of the nursery of Mr. Tri, causing public outrage. On January 20, Mr. Vinh admitted his mistakes and apologized to the people as well as Mr. Tri’s family.
At the dialogue, Tri’s family and hundreds of people asked the authorities of Quang Ngai to take criminal prosecution against Mr Vinh. They said that Vinh abused his power to issue many wrong decisions, causing serious consequences. In addition, Mr. Vinh is said to directly conduct the police force and local military in land coercion.
Relevant bodies are required to expeditiously implement statutory compensation liability to ensure the legal rights of citizens as soon as possible. The officials and Party members involving in the case will be strictly punished in accordance with law, Mr. Thich said.
In July 2011, when Tri and 8 workers were caring for his bonsai garden, the Son Tinh district’s government sent many vehicles to flatten the garden. The garden had more than 500,000 valuable bonsai trees at that time and was one of the biggest bonsai garden in the central Vietnam.
After the event, to relieve the people’s upset, Quang Ngai authorities directed the relevant agencies to inspect the case. The decision on land coercion of Tri’s family, signed by Son Tinh district chair Pham Vinh, was then defined to be wrong.
