Before building a tunnel through the mountain to the cave, Am Tien cave was quite isolated so not many people knew of it, including the locals. Although the location of Am Tien cave is 400m from the Eastern gate of the King Dinh Tien Hoang temple, adjacent to the East citadel of the Hoa Lu ancient capital.

Am Tien cave is located in a valley surrounded by rocky cliffs, with a lake in middle, a rock pagoda in the mountains, a mountain tunnel and a majestic gate.

The stone gate looks like the scene of a swordplay movie, opening up so much curiosity on a place with historical imprints.

Am Tien Cave is located halfway up the mountain. In the old days under King Dinh, the cave was used as a place to raise tigers to punish death row inmates.

In the pond, surrounded by moss, beautiful sunny days, the water in the lake is clear. In addition, in the summer, there are lotus flowers and water lilies blooming in the lake.

Am Tien cave shares its name with Am Tien temple. One must climb more than 200 stone steps to reach the temple.

In the last years of her life, Queen Mother Duong Van Nga was also ordained as a monk at Am Tien Temple

In addition to worshiping Buddha and Empress Duong Van Nga, Am Tien Pagoda also worships some famous people of the Dinh dynasty, worshiping Zen Buddhist Nguyen Minh Khong of Ly dynasty.

Am Tien Temple is inside the cave which is called the Rong (Dragon) cave as it has the shape of a dragon's mouth. There are many thousand-year-old stalactites in the cave.
