The family economic development model implemented by members of the Women's Union in many districts of Dien Bien province is considered a success.

The Women's Union of Dien Bien province has a total of 107,856 members, of which nearly 80% of members are ethnic minorities who live mainly in the mountainous and border areas. The life of members is still difficult. Many members are burdened by outdated customs and practices and the ideology of male preference.

To help members gain confidence and gradually change the concept of "Women are the weaker in the family", the Women's Union of Dien Bien province has asked Women's Unions at grassroot levels to prioritize implementation of gender equality communication activities, solving pressing issues for women and children in ethnic minority and mountainous areas, diffuse knowledge on laws and policies to support women and girls.

In particular, with the assigned responsibility of implementing Project 8 under the National Target Program for socio-economic development in ethnic minority and mountainous areas, the Women's Union of Dien Bien province has proactively informed and organized training courses on project contents to help local Women’s Associations to well fulfil their tasks.

In Muong Nhe - the most difficult border district of Dien Bien province – thanks to the active participation of Women's Union officials and the support of the local party committees and commune authorities, by August 2023, the Women’s Union of Muong Nhe district has recorded positive results in propagating, building and replicating models that focus on changing thinking and work practices, and improve women's economic empowerment.

To date, Muong Nhe district has established 22 communication groups with 217 members, including 70 female members. These groups have joined commune-level Women's Unions to disseminate four policy packages to support ethnic minority women in giving birth safely and taking care of children's health.

In addition to communication activities and advocacy for gender equality, Women's Unions at all levels in Dien Bien province have also organized many practical activities and models that clearly demonstrate the Party's and State’s guidelines and policies, for example the "5 no, 3 clean" model and the establishment of a number of the "Women develops household-economic model" and "Typical ethnic minority women" clubs.

At the same time, movements to build a civilized lifestyle, cultured families, villages free of social evils are promoted, thereby affirming the role of women in society.
