Ngo, who became Deputy Minister in 2010 and was a member of the Party Central Committee, breathed his last breath at Hanoi-based Military Hospital 108.
Ngo was reported to have devoted his life to public security and was a trailblazer in many important investigation cases.
Most recently, he was in charge of investigation into the corruption case involving national shipping company Vinalines, which caused a loss of VND366 billion (US$17.26 million) to the State budget.
