Deputy Prime Minister cum Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh will lead a Vietnamese delegation to attend the 47th ASEAN Foreign Ministers Meeting (AMM-47) and some other related meetings in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar from August 5-10.

Along with AMM-47, the delegation will participate in the ASEAN Post Ministerial Conference (PMC), the 15th ASEAN Plus Three Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (APT-15), the fourth East Asia Summit Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (EAS FMM-4), and the 21st ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF-21).

Earlier, there will be preliminary meetings of ASEAN Senior Officials (ASEAN SOM) to prepare for foreign ministerial conferences which are the most important in the year of ASEAN and its partners, with the participation of foreign ministers from 27 countries (10 ASEAN countries and 17 non-ASEAN partners).

Foreign ministers will review ASEAN cooperation, relations between ASEAN and its partners in recent years, and discuss orientations for promoting partnerships as well as international and regional issues of mutual concern, particularly peace and security in the region.

On the occasion, a number of ministerial meetings in the Mekong Cooperation framework will also be held.

Vietnam’s participation in the meetings aims to reinforce ASEAN solidarity and cooperation towards a strong and united ASEAN Community, and enhance the regional grouping’s central role in maintaining the environment of peace, stability, security and cooperation in the region and expanding relations with partners to contribute to ASEAN’s common goals and interests.
