HCM City has witnessed a sharp rise in dengue fever and hand, foot and mouth disease patients, according to the municipal Department of Health.

According to the Ministry of Health, since the beginning of the year, the country has recorded nearly 260,000 cases of dengue fever and 102 deaths are attributed to dengue.

Hanoi is enduring a surge in dengue infections, with an additional 38 new hotspots and 1,420 cases recorded from October 14 to 21.

The nation has recorded more than 258,480 dengue fever cases this year, marking a 4.8-fold increase compared to the same period from last year.

Vietnam has recorded as many as 247,202 dengue infections so far this year, or 4.7 times higher than the same period last year, according to the Ministry of Health.

Vietnam has recorded as many as 165,844 dengue fever cases in January-August 2022, including 62 deaths, according to the Ministry of Health's lastest report.

Dextran, a high molecular solution, is only used for severe dengue cases, but only one company in Thailand is making the product. Vietnam has lacked this fluid over the last two years.

HCM City has recorded 16,000 dengue fever cases so far this year, up 117.3 percent on-year, including nine deaths.

The Ho Chi Minh City Center for Disease Control yesterday said that cases of dengue dropped to 528 last week, a decrease of 34.6 percent compared to the average number in the prior four weeks.
