A picturesque destination amidst the Central Highlands mountains and forests, Lắk Lake seeks to better serve residents and tourists while attracting business investment.
The Lắk Lake national scenic site is located in Liên Sơn town in Đắk Lắk Province’s Lắk district, along National Highway 27 from Đắk Lắk province to Đà Lạt city in Lâm Đồng Province.
Lắk Lake is about 56km southeast of Buôn Ma Thuột city, and holds significant value not only in irrigation and fisheries but also in ecotourism and cultural tourism potential.
The lake is the largest natural freshwater lake in the Central Highlands and the second largest in Việt nam after Ba Bể Lake in Bắc Kạn.
With a water surface area of nearly 500 hectares during the rainy season, and connected to the Krông Ana River, Lắk Lake is surrounded by pristine and historical forests associated with Bảo Đại’s Palace.
The ethnic minority villages in Bông Krang, Yang Tao, and Đắk liêng communes around the lake retain a primitive beauty, with a rich and diverse culture.
Nestled beside the serene and poetic Lắk Lake, Jun, M’liêng, and Lê villages are impressive tourist spots for those who wish to explore and learn about the cultural beauty of Central Highlands villages.
Here, visitors can admire traditional stilt houses under the green canopy, watch local women diligently working on their looms, and experience the preserved and enhanced traditional cultural practices and customs that have been passed down through generations.
Another enjoyable activity is rowing on Lắk Lake and savoring local specialties such as featherback fish, eel, and snails, along with many rustic dishes that capture the highland countryside flavours.
In the evening, tourists have the chance to interact with local people, learn about ethnic culture, cook with locals, and sleep in lakeside homestays or at Bảo Đại’s Palace, where the last king of the Nguyễn Dynasty used to stay for leisure and hunting.
At Lắk Lake, tourists can engage in activities like elephant-friendly experiences, sightseeing in the mountains and villages, gathering around jars of rice wine, and listening to village elders recount legends and tales of the land. Photo baodantoc.vn |
Mobilising resources
To attract tourists, Đắk Lắk Province and its Lắk district have recently focused resources on investing in transportation infrastructure and improving the landscape around Lắk Lake to better serve residents and tourists.
Nay Y Phú, chairman of the People's Committee of Lắk, stated that the locality has great potential for developing ecological and cultural tourism.
It is crucial to implement the campaign “Focusing on mobilising resources to build and develop Lắk district into a key tourist area of Đắk Lắk province by 2030,” he said.
The district focuses on investing in infrastructure around Lắk Lake to achieve the dual goal of improving tourist roads, meeting travel needs, and creating a platform to attract businesses for investment.
The district is investing nearly VNĐ30 billion in the road around Lắk Lake.
Upon completion, this will be the most beautiful road section in the central Lắk Lake area, facilitating tourism development and socio-economic growth in the locality.
According to Phú, to promote local tourism, recently, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Đắk Lắk province, in coordination with the People's Committee of Lắk district, inaugurated and put into operation the Lắk district cultural and tourism information point at 268 Nguyễn Tất Thành street, Liên Sơn town, Lắk district.
The facility was built with funding from the national target programme for socio-economic development in ethnic minority and mountainous areas from 2021 to 2030, and counterpart funding from the People's Committee of Lắk district.
The Lắk District cultural and tourism information point will be a place to promote tourism and the distinctive traditional cultural values of ethnic minorities, providing information support to tourists.
Here, visitors will receive assistance through electronic devices or tourism promotion publications provided by the Tourism Promotion Center, such as travel guides, brochures, leaflets, and maps
Additionally, it will introduce unique OCOP products and local specialties, assist in resolving tourist issues and requests, and contribute to promoting tourism communication while preserving and enhancing the traditional cultural values of ethnic minorities in the locality. - VNS
