VietNamNet Bridge – Patrolling the Serepok River, rangers of the Yok Don National Park in Dak Lak Province found a lot of rare wood floating on the surface. They said it is highly possible that the timber was illegally exploited by loggers in the Yok Don National Park.

Ancient trees cut down in national park




On the afternoon of December 12, Mr. Tran Van Thanh, acting director of the Yok Don National Park said in the last two days, rangers fished out more than 5cu.m of rare wood from the Serepok River, the section crossing the national park.

"It is possible that this volume of timber was illegally exploited by loggers in the area under the management of the Ranger Station No. 9 of the Yok Don National Park," Thanh said.

Earlier, on November 15, rangers also detected about 5m3 of rare timber, which is said to be cut off from 15 ancient trees in the Yok Don National Park.

Two officials of the Ranger Station No. 9 have been sacked for that case while one was dismissed from the vice chief position.
