VietNamNet Bridge – Seven people, including entrepreneurs, were arrested and prosecuted by the police of Da Nang City for involvement in international football betting rings worth millions of USD.

Nguyen Van Vinh, Chairman and CEO of Vinh Quang Nguyen Company, was arrested on December 25, 2012.

Major General Nguyen Van Son, Director of the Da Nang Police Agency, said after 50 days of investigation, on December 21, 2012, Da Nang police arrested Lu Khanh Tung, Le Duc Vu, Le Ky Hoan (General Director of Trans-Indochina JSC), Pham Van Tuan Anh and Luong Thi Anh Dao, all residing in Da Nang.

Through these defendants, the police discovered two football betting networks conducted by Nguyen Anh Cuong, in Phan Thiet, Binh Thuan and a man in Da Nang, who has fled.

On the same day, Da Nang police sent a working group to Binh Thuan to cooperate with the local police to arrest Cuong and transferred him to Da Nang for investigation.

In the afternoon of 25/12/2012, the 7th person - Nguyen Van Vinh, Chairman and CEO of Vinh Quang Nguyen Company – was arrested. Two others who made a confession were given bail.

The police seized more than VND200 million ($10,000), dozens of credit cards, cell phones and laptops.

The investigation shows that since 2000, Cuong and some people linked up with international football betting rings to organize betting in Vietnam, with a total value of hundreds of billion dong (tens of million USD.)

Of the seven arrestees, some are big entrepreneurs. Cuong is the son of the boss of a famous seafood processing firm in Phan Thiet. With a reputation for his wealth, Cuong was provided an online betting account with a limit of up to millions of dollars by his foreign “partners”. From this "general account," Cuong distributed quotas to "agents" in many provinces.

In Da Nang, Cuong had two direct "agents" - Luong Thi Anh Dao (the owner of a tourism service company) and Vinh, Chairman and CEO of Vinh Quang Nguyen Company.

In addition to villas and large hotels near the beach of My Khe, Vinh also owns a Porsche Cayenne car worth several billion dong.

Le Ky Hoan and Pham Van Tuan Anh are the "agents" of another football betting ring, which is related to a wanted man. Hoan is the Director of the Trans-Indochina JSC.
