Each vessel that returned to Tho Quang Port in Son Tra District brought home tonnes of fish, mostly mackerel, and common dolphinfish.

Nguyen Van Thanh, a boat owner from Quang Binh Province, said he went on a 10-day trip and caught over three tonnes of fish.

"Since early 2020, this is the first time we have been able to catch so many fish. Normally, we could only catch one tonne of fish in each trip," he said.

Boat owner Nguyen Van Huong also said he was able to catch nearly two tonnes of fish. However, because of high supply, fish prices have dropped to VND100,000 (USD4) to VND125,000 per kilo for mackerel compared to VND170,000 last year.

"I'm able to earn about VND220m (USD9,565), after excluding all the costs, I earn about VND100m in profit," Huong said.
