The Czech Republic will organise Mrs Ao Dai Vietnam Europe 2018 this June to honour the graceful and delicate beauty of Vietnam’s Ao Dai costume (traditional long dress).
The beauty pageant, which will be the first of its kind in the Czech Republic, is organised under the sponsorship of the Overseas Vietnamese Association in Europe. It is open to contestants aged 35 and older, regardless of nationality.
The contest is offered as a playground for all beauties across Europe with the aim of promoting the splendor of Vietnamese Ao Dai to international friends while encouraging younger generations of Vietnamese living abroad to become interested in the history and values of the Ao Dai costume.
At a recent press conference in Prague, Mr Pham Gia Hau, President of the Vietnam Cultural and Art Association in the Czech Republic said information about the beauty pageant was posted on their website in early March 2018. The organisers said they have received interest from contestants in many European nations such as Germany, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia, France, and Netherlands.
About 100 beauties will be given a place in the final round scheduled for June 15-16. Contestants will participate in a series of activities such as an evening gown gala night, a picnic program, photoshoot shows, and an outdoors Ao Dai fashion show.
Aside from the eight main awards including two first, two second, and two third prizes, the organising board will also present sub-awards to beauties who excel in the categories of Mrs Photogenic, Mrs Friendly, Mrs Evening Gown, and Mrs Ao Dai.
Organisers have invited prestigious figures of the entertainment industries in Vietnam and the Czech Republic to serve as members of the judging panel, including People’s Artist Thai Bao, actress BaoThanh, Miss Tourism of Czech Republic Michaela Haladova Gross, and a selection of the Presidents of Vietnam Women’s Associations in the Czech Rep., Poland, Germany, Hungary, and Slovakia.
The event is expected to become a biennial occasion hosted on rotary basis in nations around the region.
