This initiative is designed to improve cervical cancer treatment capabilities in Vietnam by utilizing Image-Guided Adaptive Brachytherapy (IGABT), addressing a critical health issue for Vietnamese women.
The newly acquired equipment, paired with Elekta’s Oncentra Brachy treatment planning system, has been delivered to K Hospital (Hanoi), Da Nang Oncology Hospital, and Ho Chi Minh City Oncology Hospital.
These tools will be used to train healthcare professionals in IGABT, a cutting-edge radiation therapy that places radioactive sources within or near tumors.
This precise method maximizes the destruction of cancer cells while minimizing harm to surrounding healthy tissues, significantly enhancing patient outcomes.
About the ACTIVE project
ACTIVE (Enhancing the Capacity of Cervical Cancer Therapy in Vietnam) is co-funded by KfW DEG (Deutsche Investitions- und Entwicklungsgesellschaft) and Elekta, in collaboration with the Asia Society for Social Improvement and Sustainable Transformation (ASSIST).
The project aims to improve cervical cancer treatment outcomes by establishing training centers at the three designated hospitals. These centers will serve as hubs for developing the expertise of oncology professionals across Vietnam and the region.
Through these programs, at least 160 professionals will receive training, gaining the theoretical knowledge and practical skills necessary to implement IGABT effectively. This development is expected to significantly enhance the quality and precision of cervical cancer treatments in Vietnam.
The delivery of advanced IGABT equipment underscores the commitment of all involved parties to improving healthcare standards in Vietnam. By combining cutting-edge technology with in-country training, ACTIVE lays the groundwork for more effective and innovative approaches to cervical cancer treatment nationwide.
The Asia Society for Social Improvement and Sustainable Transformation (ASSIST) is a pan-Asian non-profit organization established in 2003.
