First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba’s Central Committee, President of the State Council and Council of Ministers, General Raul Castro has sent his condolences to Vietnamese Party, State and Government leaders over the death of General Vo Nguyen Giap.
The Cuban leader said the Party, Government and people of Cuba share the sorrow and the loss of Vietnam at the passing away of the legendary fighter who struggled for freedom of Vietnam and who is a close friend of Cuba .
He also affirmed that the Cuban people will forever keep the image of General Giap with profound admiration and respect, and the Cuban revolutionary armed forces will always treasure invaluable contributions by the general to Cuba’s military doctrine.
The Cuban leader further said the image of the revolutionary fighter General Vo Nguyen Giap will remain forever in the heart of the Cuban people as a noble demonstration of the historical friendship between Cuba and Vietnam.
Russian General remembers General Vo Nguyen Giap
Russian Senior Lieutenant General, Professor and Doctor of military science Khiupenhen Anatoli Ivanovich has said he feels deeply sad at the news on the passing away of his friend, General Vo Nguyen Giap.
The Russian General described the deceased, with his great role, as a pride of the Vietnamese nation, calling him the right-hand man of President Ho Chi Minh in building the army.
The Dien Bien Phu victory can be taken as the Vietnamese version of the Stalingrad victory, he said.
He also recalled a visit to the Vietnam Army Museum during which Russian military experts expressed their admiration to the wisdom of the General who had never had any official military training.
General Vo Nguyen Giap in the heart of Latin Americans
Many Latin American countries have praised General Vo Nguyen Giap following the news on his death.
The Venezuelan foreign ministry, in its communique, said the passing away of the General is a loss to the country’s people, and that President Nocolas Maduro has expressed deepest condolences over the great loss by the fraternal Vietnamese people.
The president also affirmed that although General Giap has passed away, yet he has left an example of wisdom and bravery.
Meanwhile, a leading daily of Argentina , the Clarin, said the book on the people’s war and people’s army by the General can be taken as a manual on the guerilla warfare.
The Mercurio, one of the major dailies of Chile , also ran an article affirming that General Giap is one of the leaders most revered in Vietnam thanks to his contributions to the struggle for national independence.
Mexican state news agency NOTIMEX stressed that General Vo Nguyen Giap is one of the greatest figures of the 20 th century, while the electronic daily Las 24 horas praised the deceased as a military genius who helps expel many armies of foreign aggressors. The Colima university has extended condolences to the Vietnamese embassy in Mexico and leaders of the Labour Party of the country is preparing to publish a number of articles and books in the military field by the General.-
