A meeting to mark the 83rd founding anniversary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) and the 1968 Spring Offensive and Uprising was held in Ho Chi Minh City on February 2.

Addressing the event, Secretary of the municipal People’s Committee Le Thanh Hai recalled the CPV’s establishment and its 83 years of development.

Hai asked the municipal authorities to overcome shortcomings in Party building and administrative reforms to build a civilised and modern city.

On the occasion, awards were presented to outstanding individuals and collectives in recognition of their contributions to Party building and development.

Earlier, the municipal leaders offered incense and laid a wreath at the HCM City Museum.

*** Many activities to mark the 83rd founding anniversary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV), the 45th anniversary of the 1968 Spring Offensive took place in Ho Chi Minh City on February 1.

At the HCM City Museum, 300 documents, images, and exhibits highlight the ingenuity and bravery of the Vietnamese soldiers, intelligence agents and messengers in the 1968 Tet Offensive campaign against the US army.

At Lam Son Park, 280 photographs and maps showcasing the Party’s great achievements in the nation’s revolution and the past 83 years were on display.

The event attaches great importance to the leading role of the Party in the process of building and developing the country.

Under the theme “Spring and Fatherland”, photographs selected from the 2013 Spring Artistic Photo competition were displayed at Chi Lang Park to reflect the image and atmosphere of the upcoming Lunar New Year.

Besides, the Thanh Nien (Youth) House of Culture organized a photo exhibition demonstrating soldiers and people’s activities to destroy the US army’s local war strategy.

The same day, the municipal Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and the Binh Chanh district People’s Committee began the construction of a memorial for the soldiers who died in the 1968 Tet Offensive.

On the occasion, several central and southern provinces, namely Quang Tri, Vinh Long, Ninh Thuan, and Hau Giang organised meetings and activities to commemorate the 83rd founding anniversary of the CPV.
