VietNamNet Bridge - Many Vietnamese university students plan to give up studying and develop businesses of their own, even though they are still living on their parents’ money.

“A student from Foreign Trade University came to see me, saying that he wants to become a Mark Zuckerberg. I asked him what he plans to do to become a Mark Zuckerberg. I know many students still cannot feed themselves and still need mothers to wake them up. They need to think carefully about how to start up business,” said Nguyen Dang Tuan Minh, co-founder of KisStartup.

Minh relayed the story with a smile, because KisStartup is an institution established to support startups. 

Hung Tran, CEO and founder of Gotlt!, commented that there is a startup movement in Vietnam. 

“Many young people decided to start up as they were inspired by the speakers at workshops and encouragements, without any preparation. 

Minh said that students are encouraged to start up business even when they cannot be independent and feed themselves.

“They need to do this before thinking of something more complicated,” she said.

More and more training courses on start ups have been provided, and more students want to give up their study to become business owners.

“I have just given up study at the Financial Academy because I plan a start up in non-life vehicle insurance. I need VND300 billion for legal capital,” a student said at a workshop.

When asked why he decided to drop out, he said he felt disappointed about school. He believes that work will give him more experience than 4-year study at university.

Nguyen Le Dinh Quy from Omega, the readers’ community of Alphabooks, said many institutions and companies, realizing the passion of youth for start ups and getting rich, design training courses on the theme to earn money. 

Many individuals, appointing themselves as ‘startup experts’, give lectures and sell books on startups.

The institutions and individuals can make big money with their speeches and books because young people, mostly university students, want to get rich quickly. In many cases, students are told to sell goods and draw up business plans but they are not paid for the works.

The training courses on how to get rich quickly and how to start up have appeared not only in Hanoi and HCM City, but also in Da Nang and other cities.
