Coach Kim Sang Sik expressed confidence that the Vietnam national football team is ready to claim the ASEAN Cup 2024 (AFF Cup) title, regardless of the opponent they face in the final.
Determination to secure the championship
"I am very happy to achieve our goal of reaching the final," said Coach Kim after Vietnam’s 3-1 victory over Singapore in the second-leg semi-final at Viet Tri Stadium on December 29.
"I want to thank the fans who came to support us. Their energy helped the team secure this victory today."
He praised the dedication of his players, stating: "We’ve gone through six matches, and the players have given everything, following the strategies and instructions of the coaching staff. They have shed sweat, tears, and even blood. This is just the beginning, and I hope we will achieve even greater success in the future."
Injury concerns and squad management
Regarding the injury to Ho Tan Tai, Coach Kim said: "Tan Tai will undergo a medical evaluation tomorrow. He is in a lot of pain right now. Every player is equally valuable to the team, and losing him would be a significant blow. I hope his injury isn’t serious."
Explaining his decision to limit striker Tuan Hai’s playing time, Kim added: "It’s always difficult as a head coach to choose the starting 11 for each match. Tuan Hai trains well, but we have many players ready to step up. Hopefully, he will get his chance in the final."
A complete performance
For the first time in the tournament, Vietnam scored a goal in the first half during the match against Singapore, much to the coach’s delight.
"Finally, we managed to score in the first half. I am very pleased. The opening half was challenging with missed opportunities, but the goal made things easier in the second half. It allowed us to maintain a balance between attack and defense, leading to our overall victory," he explained.
Confidence for the final
Vietnam will face either Thailand or the Philippines in the final. Coach Kim emphasized that his team is prepared for any opponent.
"Whether it’s Thailand or the Philippines, Vietnam will be ready with the best strategies for the final. Our goal is to win, regardless of who we face."
He concluded: "We will analyze our opponents carefully, prepare thoroughly, and demonstrate our strength to claim the championship."
