The search for a caretaker to lead the national squad in the upcoming two games of the Asian Cup 2015 qualifier almost has the answer. The VFF will announce the name of the coach before January 7 to facilitate the selection of players for the first gathering, scheduled on January 23.
According to some sources from the VFF, Hoang Anh Tuan is the top candidate. The coach is fully consistent with the criteria set by the VFF: having a certificate of the AFC in 2005, having participated in special training courses in India and Switzerland, being good at English and especially being a free coach at this moment.
Earlier, it was said that Tuan had signed a contract with Haiphong FC, but yesterday, former chair of Khanh Hoa FC Le Tien Anh confirmed that the coach did not sign that contract and it is his decision to join the national team or not.
The VFF and Tuan refused to reveal any information. "VFF will announce the result in the coming days, I do not have any comment at all," Tuan said.
This week, the VFF and the coach will be meeting for the last time to finalize all the terms in the contract. Although only acting in two games, the salary paid for Tuan is said to be about VND100 million a month ($5,000).
The VFF may sign a long-term contract with the coach if the national squad performs well at the upcoming Asian Cup qualifier or if the General Department of Sports and Physical Training does not allow the federation to recruit a foreign coach.
Tuan was born in 1968 and used to be a member of the national team in 1995 and a mainstay of Khanh Hoa FC. In 2007, he began the coaching career and led U21 Khanh Hoa team to the national U21 championship in 2007.
For years, Tuan helped Khanh Hoa FC creat its own identity in the V-League. Unfortunately, after the 2012 football season, Khanh Hoa FC was sold to Hai Phong FC.
