The working group of Vietnam and China held the sixth round of talks on the sea area beyond the mouth of the Gulf of Tonkin in Beijing from December 10-12.

During the talks, the two sides affirmed they will work hard to realise the common perception of the two countries’ high-ranking leaders on steadily accelerating negotiations on the demarcation of maritime boundaries in the waters off the mouth of the Gulf of Tonkin, while actively promoting cooperation for mutual development in these waters.

Technical experts discussed specific plans to conduct a joint survey of a section of the waters as agreed earlier. The survey aims to serve the boundary demarcation goal and win-win cooperation in these waters in line with international law, especially the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).
