ChatGPT is a natural language processing program developed by OpenAI with the ability to answer most questions from its users. After only two months since its launch, ChatGPT now has 100 million users. 

Along with the quick rise of ChatGPT, many problems regarding the AI program are now being discussed. VietNamNet is introducing several articles about ChatGPT from the perspective of Vietnamese experts.

Vietnamese technology enterprises can use core technology of giant tech-group to develop. Giant groups will not be able to solve specific, localized problems. This is an opportunity for Vietnamese companies to cooperate with ‘Big Tech’ for development, said Nguyen Manh Quy, director of Viettel Cyberspace about the impact of ChatGPT and AI use in Vietnam.

From an expert's point of view, how do you rate ChatGPT? Is this chatbot "super" as many people think?

In my opinion, ChatGPT is a breakthrough in the field of artificial intelligence. Before ChatGPT, chatbots on the market were developed to serve certain fields. For example, a customer care chatbot can only answer content related to its work.

ChatGPT uses a huge amount of data from Open AI. According to initial information, this firm invested 1 billion USD for GPT 1, GPT 2, and GPT 3 models and most recently GPT 3.5. With such a large data, ChatGPT is like a virtual encyclopedia.

When a user raises a question, the chatbot model will take authenticated data such as books and documents, in addition to data on the Internet, websites, social networks. However, ChatGPT can only give results on broad data, not in-depth.

Is there any chatbot program in the world with similar capabilities to ChatGPT?

Up to now, there is no such chatbot model. ChatGPT has developed very quickly and has become a craze because it can answer any question. It can also create content according to certain topics. These are factors that make it possible for users to use ChatGPT to optimize their work.

As far as I can see, for the same question that is asked many times, the answers given by ChatGPT are not the same. The creator of ChatGPT says that the tool is only for reference and is not always capable of giving an exact answer.

With Google, if we type content to search, it will give thousands of different answers (websites). With ChatGPT, it only produces a brief text, which summarizes the content of the answer after searching for information.

ChatGPT's reply does not cite the source. The program's data can also be wrong, so users need to be careful.

To create an AI with similar capabilities to ChatGPT, what conditions are needed?

Creating ChatGPT takes a very long process. Referring to the conditions to develop an artificial intelligence program like ChatGPT, first we must have a supercomputer and input data. Data must be cleaned to ensure the chatbot has a good source of information.

Tech giants are capable of dominating the AI market, like Google in search. In other words, are there still opportunities for other businesses, including Vietnamese firms in this field?

Tech giants like Google, Facebook, Amazon and Microsoft have huge resources and a methodical investment style. Usually, they will focus on creating platforms and ecosystems. Based on that background, other businesses, including Vietnamese technology enterprises, can use the core technology of big tech groups to develop because super-sized companies will not be able to solve specific, localized problems. 

This is an opportunity for Vietnamese companies to cooperate with them for development. Our advantage is having "local" data, so we can use it to collaborate and, above all, avoid being technologically invaded.

Artificial intelligence is a very large field. What market segment should Vietnamese technology enterprises participate in?

Vietnamese AI companies should participate in some narrow areas of artificial intelligence such as computer vision, smart cameras, chatbots, product recommendations in e-commerce or problems related to content creation.

For Viettel, we are focusing on research and development of AI in three main areas: speech and natural language processing, computer vision and data analysis. Viettel is also developing two more fields; Robotics and Digital Twin.
