Vietnam has successfully fulfilled its role as Chair of ASEAN in 2020 and made significant contributions to the region, according to Hoang Thi Ha, an expert from the ISEAS - Yusof Ishak Institute of Singapore.

Secretary-General of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Dato Lim Jock Hoi has commended Vietnam’s exemplary role as the Chair of ASEAN in a year full of challenges.

2020 is a landmark year for Vietnam in the international arena. It is assuming a two-year-long non-permanent seat at the United Nations Security Council, which includes two months as president of the highest decision-making body of world politics.

Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyen Quoc Dung held a meeting in Hanoi yesterday with correspondents and press assistants of foreign press agencies, along with cultural and press attachés of foreign representative agencies in Vietnam.

Vietnam wants ASEAN to unite in all aspects, from institutions to economy and human resources, which is very important for ASEAN to uphold its central role, said Deputy Foreign Minister and Head of SOM ASEAN Vietnam Nguyen Quoc Dung.
