VietNamNet Bridge – Tourists can now return to the ancient town of Hoi An, Danang and Thua Thien-Hue after a typhoon earlier whipped the central region and ground travel services to a halt.

Truong Van Bay, vice chairman of Hoi An City, said the city on Wednesday afternoon welcomed back a huge number of visitors. Tours on the Hoai River are back in service after an interruption caused by high water levels on the river on Tuesday.

“The ancient town suffered no considerable damage but multiple damaged homes are being protected from rising floodwaters,” Bay said.

Numerous tourism companies on Wednesday sold tours to the central region including those to major tourist sites in Hoi An, Danang and Thua Thien-Hue. Visitors have re-started their tours after being stranded at hotels in the region during the storm.

According to Quang Nam Province’s Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, tourists returned to Quang Nam on Wednesday. Meanwhile, many storm-hit coastal resorts have resumed services, with Sunrise Hoi An Beach receiving guests with about 100 rooms occupied on Wednesday. However, some others have remained shut, including Victoria.

In Thua Thien-Hue, there were no longer torrential rains feared to flood the relics there while a number of tourist sites in the former Hue Imperial Palace welcomed visitors back on Tuesday afternoon and most tourist attractions there were active as normal as of Wednesday.

Like Hoi An, Hue on Wednesday welcomed a host of visitors including those affected by the storm and newcomers from Danang, Laos and Thailand.

“800 tourists visited Hue relics on Tuesday afternoon, with 600 being foreigners. The number of visitors to the sites rose to more than 5,000 today and the relics remain intact,” said Phan Tien Dung, director of Thua Thien-Hue Province’s tourism department.
