Rising caseloads daily have prompted local medical facilities to operate at full capacity in a bid to treat infected patients, while health facilities are still lacking necessary medical equipment and highly-qualified personnel, said Trinh Quang Tri, director of the provincial Center for Disease Control.

Approximately 80% of hospitalisations are people who have already received their first or even second dose of COVID-19 vaccines, he revealed.

To ease pressure on medical facilities, he said, the Dak Lak administration has allowed asymptomatic or mild cases to isolate themselves at home for medical surveillance and treatment.

Nguyen Quang Hao, deputy director of the provincial Department of Health, said the department is formulating a home quarantine and treatment scheme for F0 cases. He also warned those who have fully been vaccinated should strictly follow the Ministry of Health’s 5K message to better protect them from virus infection. 

According to the Ministry of Health, Dak Lak is one of 11 localities with the lowest vaccination rate in terms of people receiving their second jab.

At present, 95% of the population in the province have been given their initial inoculation, while nearly 60% of people are expected to receive their second shot by December 5.

The locality also plans to vaccinate more than 64,000 high school students next week and other people with underlying illnesses as soon as vaccines are allocated.
