The Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee (VFFCC)’s Presidium held the third consultation meeting yesterday to approve the official list of 1,146 candidates for the election of deputies to the 14th National Assembly.

In his speech, Nguyen Thien Nhan, Politburo Member, VFFCC President and Vice Chairman of the National Election Council, said after the second consultation meeting, the Standing Committee of VFFCC introduced the names and biographies of all 197 candidates, who were introduced by central organisations, and 949 candidates from localities, to collect feedback from voters where each nominated candidate resides.

Some 154 applicants nominated themselves as candidates.

Among the lists, 420 are female, accounting for 36.6 per cent of the total, and 240 are from ethnic minorities, accounting for 20.9 per cent. Non-Party member candidates are 226.

According to reports on the collection, which was completed on April 12, as many as 192 people received 100 per cent confidence from voters, while five others got between 97.6 percent and 99.3 per cent.

Speaking at the conference, NA Vice Chairwoman Tong Thi Phong stressed the need to ensure transparency and equality among voters during meetings with them, adding that candidates should present their tasks and responsibilities if they win the election.

Members of the National Election Council should pay attention to performing election–related inspections, to address any difficulties in election areas.

After the third consultation meeting, agencies and organisations will organise meetings with voters for candidates to arrange electoral campaigns, which will begin when the official list of candidates is announced on April 27 and finish one day before Election Day (before 7am of May 21).

The election of deputies to the 14th NA will take place on May 22, which is a Sunday inline with the law.
