VietNamNet Bridge - Nearly three weeks after a stroke which lead to a coma, Chairman of Can Tho City – Mr. Nguyen Thanh Son – is recovering and begins to recognize things around him.

In the afternoon of May 2, the office of Can Tho City People's Committee announced that the health of the 56-year-old chair is being improved very well thanks to the special care of the best doctors at the HCM City University of Medicine and Cho Ray Hospital in HCM City. Son has revived and can move his limbs, open his eyes and recognize things around him.

"Mr. Son cannot speak now because of a feeding tube in his mouth. Whenever communicating with relatives, he blinked at the guidance, showing his gradual recovery after 18 days of treatment," a Can Tho official said.

On the morning of April 14, while cycling for fitness, Son had a stroke and fell down to the road. The same day, he was taken to the Cho Ray Hospital in HCM City for emergency by a helicopter.

For the past three weeks, Vice Chairman Le Hung Dung has temporary replaced Son.

Son was born in 1957 in Giong Rieng district, Kien Giang province. He was appointed as Chairman of the Can Tho City People's Committee in early 2011.
