Around 5:10 p.m. on March 30, the bus was heading from Da Lat to Ho Chi Minh City along National Highway 20. As it passed through Da M’ri town in Da Huoai District, it suddenly veered off the road and fell approximately 20 meters down Bao Loc Pass. Panic erupted among the passengers, many of whom screamed in fear.
Upon receiving the report, Lam Dong provincial traffic police and other relevant units quickly arrived at the scene to conduct a rescue operation. Medical staff from Lam Dong General Hospital II were also deployed to provide on-site emergency support.
By 6:40 p.m., around 30 injured individuals had been pulled from the bus and brought back up to the pass. One fatality was confirmed at the scene.
Initial reports indicate that the bus, registered in Ho Chi Minh City, was driven by N.V.L. (44), a resident of Binh Phuoc Province. It was carrying 36 people on its return journey from Da Lat to Ho Chi Minh City. The incident occurred when the bus rear-ended a truck driven by N.T.H. (48), a resident of Duc Trong District, Lam Dong, who was traveling in the same direction.
The collision caused the bus to veer across the left lane and plunge off Bao Loc Pass. According to the bus driver, the brakes had failed before the crash occurred.
By 7:30 p.m., all victims had been rescued from the wreckage, and the injured were taken to nearby medical facilities for treatment. According to authorities, the crash resulted in one death and three serious injuries; the rest sustained minor injuries.
The deceased was identified as N.T.N.T., born in 1999, from Dong Xoai City, Binh Phuoc Province. Two children, H.V. and N.Y., suffered broken arms, and N.H.T. (24), from Tan Xuan, Dong Xoai, sustained back injuries.
The bus was transporting a company group that had traveled to Da Lat to participate in a marathon and was on the return leg of the trip when the accident occurred.
Lam Dong authorities continue to conduct rescue operations and investigate the cause of the crash.
