Bodybuilders hunt titles in Macau

A national 26-strong team will leave for the Asian Bodybuilding Championships that open today in Macau.

Viet Nam, which has been named as among the continent's top three competitors, will compete in both the men's and women's categories.

At last year's event in Viet Nam, the host bodybuilders earned 10 titles.

U13s win matches on Japan tour

Song Lam Nghe An's U13 team secured two more wins yesterday on their Japan tour after winning the national championships last month.

The Vietnamese champions defeated the U12s of Vivace FC 10-1 in the morning with a hat-trick from striker Van Huy. The team consolidated their sensational win beating Azul Claro Numazu's U12 8-1.

Coach Nguyen Huu Thang said he was impressed at how their Japanese rivals organised games, their sideline activities and their respectful attitude towards players, coaches and fans.

The boys will have two days off in Tokyo before heading home tomorrow.

Vietnamese female badminton ace Vu Thi Trang has reached the second round at the Li Ning World Badminton Championships which is taking place in Copenhagen, Denmark.

The 20-year-old needed only 25 minutes to see off Vicente Lohaynny of Brazil 21-14, 21-12 in the first round of the women's singles.

The Bac Giang-based player's second-round opponent will be word No 17 and 15th-seeded Eriko Hirose of Japan, who received a bye in the first round.

Viet Nam's other representative at the championships Nguyen Tien Minh is also is expected to book a place in the second round in the men's singles when he takes on Howard Shu of the US later.

PVF U16 lose in final first leg

Viet Nam's representative at the Asia Champions Trophy, the PVF Under-16 team, yesterday lost 2-1 to Malaysia's Harimau Muda U-16 in the first leg of the final at the Thong Nhat Stadium.

Raj Al Mohana opened the score for the visiting team with a successful conversion from the penalty spot following Le Thanh Phong's foul on Najib Bin Abdullah four minutes from the break.

Le Ngoc Bao levelled the match for the home team in the second half with a close-range header from a corner in the 73th minute. However, the Malaysian boys soon restored the lead through Muhammad Bin Samat three minutes later.

The score remained unchanged until the final whistle and the Malaysian team hold the upper hand in the second leg, which take place at Frenz on Sunday.
