The success follows on from her exploits last year, when she won the same award and was named among the 10 best songwriters and 10 best singers.

Tam also won the Best Asian Artist at the recent Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA) – an annual ceremony known as the "East Asian Grammys."

This year, the Best Album went to female singer Ho Ngoc Ha for Invincible, while the singer was also named in the 10 Best Singers group.

Other singers, who also made the cut, included My Tam, Dam Vinh Hung, Tuan Hung, Vietnam Idol 2011 second runner-up Van Mai Huong, Vietnam Idol 2011 Uyen Linh and Thu Minh.

The teacher-turned-singer Ho Trung Dung won the Promising Male Singer title, while Vy Oanh was awarded the female equivalent.

Meanwhile, four-member boy band V-Music bagged the Best Band title.

Founded by the Voice of HCM City (VOH) radio station in 1997, the annual awards aim to honour singers, bands, musicians and music producers, who have made significant contributions to Vietnamese music.

Most winners are chosen by VOH listeners, while artists of the year and promising singers are nominated by industry experts and journalists.
