Of the technologies believed to have an impact on the press and communications, experts believe that AI and blockchain will be the most influential.

The two technologies can be applied in managing a digital newsroom, organizing news production, and distributing press and communications products.

Dang Minh Tuan, chair of the Vietnam Blockchain Association and head of CMC Research Institute, said blockchain plays a very important role in digital transformation because there will be no more dossiers, documents and papers, but there will be only data. By that time, risks will turn up: data may be lost, controlled or amended. In this case, blockchain will help ensure the reliability of data.

Tuan suggested using products of blockchain technology such as NFT, smart contract and Web 3 in the operations of editorial offices.

Blockchain can be used to verify the integrity of press content and reassure that articles won’t be adjusted after they are published. This helps partners and readers have confidence in the accuracy and reliability of information content.

The technology will also help protect intellectual property rights by recording information about authors, dates of creation, and dates of publication thanks to information on the blockchain.

Thanks to this, digital editorial offices can protect journalists’ rights, prevent copyright infringement and disputes related to data in articles and information ownership rights.

Blockchain can also be used to set up a mechanism which is safe and transparent in order to control advertising transactions. The technology allows related parties such as business officers of newspapers, marketing partners, and editorial offices to keep a close watch and verify transactions, thus ensuring transparency and preventing breaches in advertising activities.

Smart contracts can be used to manage the process of editing and censoring articles automatically, and recording and authenticating steps during the editing process, ensuring accuracy and transparency.

Instead of collecting fees from readers through messages, press agencies can sell a type of electronic ticket under the form of NFT. One just needs to have an NFT to access high-end content without having to conduct the fee payment operation.

In the last two years, NFT has been widely applied in digital assets. Tuan said newspapers can turn their articles into NFTs, which turns every article into a digital asset which is transferable and salable.

“Press agencies can build up a collection of digital assets which are articles under the form of NFT. These must be valuable articles, and the readers who love the stories can spend money to own the digital version of the article,” he explained.
