VietNamNet Bridge – Late yesterday, the Viet Nam National Committee for Search and Rescue sent a vessel to rescue a local fishing boat which had ran out of fuel and was drifting at sea 116 nautical miles from O Cap Cape in the southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau.

The fishing boat, registered in the central coastal province of Binh Dinh, had 15 fishermen onboard and was on the way back to shore to avoid Typhoon Kaitak. When it ran out of fuel and began to drift on strong winds and waves, the captain attempted to send SOS calls.

Also yesterday, two fishing boats from Binh Dinh which were sinking offshore, were rescued by two other fishing boats from the same province. Eleven fishermen from the two sinking boats were saved, but one remains missing.

According to Binh Dinh Province’s Steering Committee on Disaster Prevention, Control and Search and Rescue, five fishing boats from Hoai Nhon District are still in dangerous locations, two of them have lost contact.

By late yesterday, Binh Dinh had more than 2,000 boats with over 12,000 fishermen fishing offshore.
