VietNamNet Bridge – A fishing vessel saved 10 foreign men, including eight Burmese nationals, who were drifting on a life raft in the seas of Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province, about 25 nautical miles to the southeast of Con Dao Island.

According to the province’s Border Guard Command, the vessel’s captain Vo Quoc Truong, 44, from Vung Tau, found a drifting yellow and red object as he was driving his vessel on Tuesday.

He immediately drove his vessel towards the object and spotted the men. Although Truong and his crew could not communicate with them due to the language barrier, they brought the men aboard and fed them porridge.

Truong transported the men to the Ben Da Border Guard Station to seek help.

Later, the foreign men were found to have come from Myanmar, Singapore and the Philippines. They were aboard an oil-carrying vessel, labeled KIT 95, which departed from Malaysia’s Pasir Gudang Port to China. However, their engine failed and the vessel sank into the sea of Ba Ria-Vung Tau early Tuesday morning.

The command will hand over the rescued men to their countries’ authorised agencies soon.
