VietNamNet Bridge – The Aust-Viet Junior Chef Challenge will be held in HCMC from June 17-21 as part of the celebrations to mark the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Australia and Vietnam, the Australian Consulate General announced.

The contest is open for Vietnamese children aged 10-12 years old to present a sample of their cooking for judges to taste, and to describe their passion for cooking for family and friends.

 The top 14 chefs will be selected as finalists to join in a cooking class with guest Vietnamese-Australian celebrity chef Nhut Huynh, and to compete in teams and individually for the title of champion of Aust-Viet Junior Chef.

Sydney-based chef Huynh will teach the selected top chefs to use premium Australian beef and lamb to make delicious dishes such as Australian beef fillet salad with lemongrass and Australian lamb on sugarcane.  During the week Nhut will also conduct public cooking demonstrations.

Trainee chefs at KOTO (Know One Teach One), a local charity providing vocational hospitality skills training for disadvantaged youths, will also have the opportunity to learn from Nhut in a cooking masterclass.

In addition to learning cooking skills from a professional chef, junior chefs will be encouraged to work together in teams. The contest focuses on having fun, being creative and learning new things, as well as kitchen safety and hygiene.

Kids can register for the Aust-Viet Junior Chef Challenge from 10 May-10 June via the consulate’s website at www.hcmc.vietnam.embassy.gov.au. Places are limited to 300.
