Three national parks and a national reserve in Vietnam have been recognised as ASEAN heritage parks, raising the total number of ASEAN heritage parks in Vietnam to 10.
The sixth ASEAN Heritage Parks Conference was held in Laos' Pakse from October 21-25. The conference was held by the ASEAN Centre for Biodiversity and the Lao government.
At the conference, the title of ASEAN Heritage Parks was given to nine sites. Vietnam received titles for Vu Quang National Park, Bidoup Nui Ba National Park, Lo Go-Xa Mat National Park and Ngoc Linh Natural Reserve.
In 2016, Bai Tu Long National Park was also recognised as ASEAN Heritage Park and Vietnam's 6th heritage park. Other Vietnamese national parks that have been recognised as ASEAN heritage parks are Ba Be National Park, Chu Rom Ray National Park, Hoang Lien National Park, Kon Ka Kinh National Park and U Minh Thuong National Park.
ASEAN Heritage Parks Programme was first held in 2003 in order to reserve unique and vital eco-systems in ASEAN.
"Vietnam’s environmental efforts are recognised with us as the country with the most heritage parks in ASEAN. In the future, we'll continue selecting and nominating potential other national parks in Vietnam," the Vietnam Environment Administration wrote in the announcement. DTinews
