The meeting will be attended by eight ministers, four deputy ministers and more than 140 international delegates of natural disaster prevention and control agencies of 10 ASEAN member countries, the ASEAN Secretariat, ASEAN Coordinating Centre for Humanitarian Assistance on Disaster Management (AHA Centre), ASEAN dialogue partners (China, Republic of Korea, Japan) and a number of international organizations in the region.
A number meetings and conferences will be held during the 6-day gathering, including an annual meeting of the 43rd ASEAN Committee on Disaster Management (ACDM), ACDM+ meetings with China, Republic of Korea and Japan, a meeting of the Governing Board of the AHA Centre, the fourth ASEAN Disaster Resilience Forum, the 11th Ministerial Meeting on Disaster Management (AMMDM), and AMMDM+ meetings with China, Republic of Korea and Japan.
A running race in response to ASEAN Day for Natural Disaster Management 2023 will be held at Hon Gai beach, Ha Long city with the participation of 1,000 athletes. Also included is an event in response to International Day of Disaster Risk Reduction 2023 (October 13).
The 11th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Disaster Management is expected to adopt a Vietnam-initiated statement on early action regarding ASEAN disaster management.
Southeast Asia is a region heavily affected by climate change and is anticipated to suffer natural disasters that are increasing in frequency and intensity. Disaster risk management is of paramount importance to ASEAN countries to mitigate the consequences of the disasters through tools and coordination mechanisms.
