Exhibition showcases the life of navy personnel, fishermen

An exhibition of art works in different genres, depicting Vietnamese navy personnel and their life on the sea and islands, was inaugurated this morning in Ha Noi.

Titled Firmly Defending National Seas and Islands, the exhibition comprises 55 paintings, graphic works and sculptures by artists of various generations from the Viet Nam University of Fine Arts, formerly known as the Indochina College of Fine Arts.

"Culture and art are also battles in which the artists are soldiers. Their works – which the Viet Nam Fine Arts Museum will present to the public – portray and reiterate the patriotism and national pride that each individual has," director of the museum and sculptor Phan Van Tien said at the inauguration ceremony.

"Additionally, the works appeal for the support of peace-loving friends from all over the world to raise their voices for Viet Nam's territorial sovereignty," he added.

The works in lacquer, oil, silk, pastel colours, water colours, ink, bronze and wood carvings showcase diverse languages and styles.

A common thread reportedly running through the art works is the artists' heartfelt affection for the personnel who work and live on the sea.

"The works have been created by different generations of artists, and showcase our long-standing tradition of patriotism and fight against foreign invaders, and our thorough and abiding awareness of national sovereignty," noted painter Tran Khanh Chuong said.

"Hence, the issues of seas, islands and national sovereignty are not just something of the past, but of the present too. The protection of national sovereignty, therefore, is in the hands of both the present and the future generations. The exhibits convey a clear message to all of us about our responsibility," he added.

The exhibits vividly illustrate the lives the steadfast and heroic navy personnel lead, no matter whether it is day or night. Regardless of the difficulties they face, they are determined to protect national sovereignty and maintain the natural beauty of the seas and islands.

The brush strokes and sculptures at the exhibition will deepen the understanding of the visitors about the romantic and peaceful nature of life on the islands, and about fishermen who strive hard for their livelihood.

The exhibition runs till July 29 at the Viet Nam Fine Arts Museum, 66 Nguyen Thai Hoc Street, Ha Noi.

Hanoi hosts “World Heritages of Japan” exhibition

Hanoi will host an exhibition featuring a photo collection by Japanese world renowned photographer Kazuyoshi Miyoshi of images of Japan’s UNESCO World Heritages from July 26 to August 9.

The photo collection will include images of the Shirakami-Sanchi Mountain Range, Yakushima Island, Himeji Castle, Buddhist monuments of the Horyu-ji Temple Area, Genbaku Dome, Historic Monuments of Ancient Nara, Historic Monuments of Ancient Kyoto, and Old Villages of Shirakawa and Gokayama.

Kazuyoshi Miyoshi, born in 1958, is a native of Tokushima Prefecture. He graduated from Tokai University in 1981. At age 27 he won the 11th Kimura Ihei Photography Award for a photo collection, “Rakuen” (“Paradise”), a series of images taken on tropical islands such as the Seychelles and Maldives.

His photographs are showcased in esteemed collections the world over, including the permanent collection of the George Eastman House International Museum of Photography and Film in the USA.

The exhibition is being sponsored by the Japan Foundation Centre for Cultural Exchange in Vietnam.

Exhibition highlights Vietnam’s sea and island sovereignty

A collection of 55 lacquer, oil and silk paintings and sculptures are being showcased by the Indochina College of Fine Arts at an exhibition on Vietnam’s sovereignty over sea and islands which opened in Hanoi on July 22.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, sculptor Phan Van Tien, Director of Vietnam Fine Arts Museum said the event aims to highlight the nation’s pride, patriotism, and the spirit of independence and self-reliance of each citizen, and call on support from international friends who have raised their voice to safeguard Vietnam’s sovereignty.

The artworks feature fishermen’s daily lives at sea and islands and images of soldiers ready to safeguard the homeland’s sovereignty.

The event runs through July 29.  

Exhibition highlights VN’s diplomatic efforts at Geneva Conference

About 200 photos, objects and materials featuring the 1954 Geneva Conference are on display at an exhibition opened on July 21 in Hanoi.

The exhibition depicts the efforts of the Vietnamese nascent diplomatic sector 60 years ago in the struggle to gain liberation for Vietnamese people.

At the conference, the Geneva Agreement was signed to end the war and restore peace in Indochina, including Vietnam, marking a great success of Vietnam’s diplomacy.

The agreement affirmed Vietnamese people’s desire for peace, national independence, sovereignty, unification and territorial integrity.

The conference left valuable lessons, especially those on considering the national interests as the most important goal and the highest principle in external affairs.

The exhibition will run til late August.
