Archers to test skills at World Cup in Shanghai

The national archery team are competing in the first round of the World Cup that begins today in Shanghai, China.

The 15-member contingent is one of 41 other teams in the round which will conclude on May 10.

The Vietnamese archers are not expected to make much progress, given that many other Asian competitors are at much higher level, but they will meet up with athletes from Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines, their key rivals at the Southeast Asian Games next month in Singapore.

Three other rounds of the World Cup will be held in Turkey, Poland and Colombia. Mexico will host the final round in October.

Volleyball team to compete in Asian U23 Championship

Viet Nam will take part in the Asian U23 Volleyball Championship in Myanmar on May 12-20.

Viet Nam are in Pool C with China, Chinese Taipei, Turmenistan and Australia.

This year's tournament has 19 teams competing in a round robin format in the preliminaries on May 12-16.

The opening matches will see hosts Myanmar take on Maldives, Thailand challenge Saudi Arabia, Qatar meet Malaysia, the Philippines play India and Viet Nam will battle Chinese Taipei.

Two top teams from the nine-day championship will qualify for the second FIVB Volleyball Men's U23 World Championship, which will take place in Dubai, the United Arabs Emirates, from August 24-31.

Viettravel Cup 2015 to kick off on Friday in Hue

The National Team Tennis Tournament, Viettravel Cup 2015, is scheduled to kick off on Friday in Hue City.

The event will attract the participation of some 20 teams nationwide, competing in both men's and women's team events under the Davis Cup and Fed Cup format, respectively.

The tournament's best athletes will be selected for the national team to compete in the upcoming Southeast Asian Games in Singapore in June.

The tournament will run until May 16.
